Hello, my name is Yu Zhe, and I am a native Mandarin speaker who has been teaching Chinese for 12 years. During this time, I have also been a translator (3 years), and a tour guide (1 year). Qualifications: Graduate of National Taipei University (Majored in Applied Linguistics and Foreign Languages) Certified through the Taiwan Ministry of Education Teacher for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fluent in English, French, and mother tongue of Mandarin History of high-profile teaching (CEO’s, Diplomats, Foreign Officials) I am very passionate about both learning and teaching language. I put forward a unique classroom experience to my students with a multifaceted approach that covers the very same techniques I have used to vastly expand my own language abilities. I understand what it takes to be a good teacher, and understand what students really need at their own different stages of progression. With that in mind, it is my pleasure to help you get through this language journey efficiently and with the right tools. My patience and experience will help guide you at whatever skill level you are, and without unnecessary pressure. My personalized teaching will help you learn more than just verbal communication, but also: literacy skills, proper phonetics, slang, grammar, conversational skills, and even some Chinese culture! When I first started learning from Yu Zhe, I knew a decent amount of grammar and vocabulary from studying on my own, but I couldn't really understand spoken Chinese (I could recognize the occasional word or phrase, but that was about it). I've now completed 20 lessons with Yu Zhe, and this past weekend, I was thrilled to realize I could understand about 50% of what my wife said on a phone call to her parents. I'm really looking forward to where I'll be after another 20 lessons!

Been learning with Yu Zhe for 2.5 years now and it's impossible to comprehend how far I've come in my Mandarin! Going from incoherently speaking small sentences to having full conversations for an hour is an incredible feat only possible with an experienced and caring teacher. I'll be back in 2026 for more lessons (and you should, too!).

Yu Zhe is one of the best Chinese teachers I've had -- he's always prepared for class, is willing to tailor the class to your interests and needs, and is extremely knowledgeable about various topics (including history and culture). I strongly recommend anyone wanting to improve or maintain their Chinese level take a class with Yu Zhe

Yu Zhe has been an excellent teacher for a first-time Mandarin learner. As someone who has only ever learned roman languages, I was very nervous about the steep learning curve for a language with new sounds and tones. In the past I struggled to mimic the correct sounds, and couldn't figure out why. Yu Zhe is very good at breaking down the exact mouth shape, breath sound, and tone level so that I can understand the most basic foundations and learn slowly.
