Let me tell you a little bit about me. I am from Somerset, which is in the south-west of England. It is a beautiful area, & I love walking, running, cycling & camping in the countryside when I am here. I also love spending time in different countries – yoga has drawn me to India several times. Nature & looking after the environment is very important to me, and I enjoy working in gardens & growing vegetables. I also spend a lot of time campaigning on climate, environment & animal rights issues. Finally, I really enjoy reading – actually, reading is one of my favourite things to do! Hopefully, we will have lots to talk about :)

I have over 10 years experience as a professional English teacher and have taught English at all levels. I have also taught preparation courses for IELTS and Cambridge exams. I have worked as a teacher in Oman, the UAE, Japan, Spain and the UK.
I'm an extremely patient teacher. I focus my teaching on getting students to speak as much as possible and look to develop their fluency. However, I also incorporate grammar into my lessons to ensure that students understand the grammar rules and feel confident when speaking. My goal is for you to become a proficient English speaker, however I always tailor my goals depending on your needs.

My lessons on italki will be conversation based. We will choose a topic, and using a variety of materials we will have a relaxed conversation. During the lesson, I will introduce new vocabulary, and we will explore grammar that comes up. I will tell you the most important mistakes that you make when speaking English, and I will help you to correct your errors. To support our discussion, I enjoy using pictures, stories, articles, video clips, TED talks, and music. Depending on your needs, I also like to include pronunciation activities and games in our lessons.

Very nic English lesson as always. I always enjoy the conversation and the friendly atmosphere with Catherine. Part of the conversation was on the topic of the article Catherine sent to me in advance and part was a spontaneous friendly chat. Which is great for practicing English, when from time to time is not prepare in advance and I have to react immediately. And the last part of the lesson is devoted to a summary of the lesson, where I made mistakes and how to correct them.
Perfect lesson!!

Catherine is a rare find as a teacher. She is a great listener, patient, and diligent. Sometimes I struggle to complete my sentences, but she waits and gives me time to process my thoughts and express them more clearly. Then, she provides helpful explanations or corrections when needed.
So far I’ve taken more than 20 classes with her, and each time I learn something new. Last but not least, I always feel joyful during our classes and leave with a big smile! That positive energy is very important, as it motivates me and makes me believe that, sooner or later, I will achieve fluency and confidence in speaking.
