Shellwyn is an artist, educator, and lifelong learner. Her hobbies include art, music, dance, capoeira, gardening, walking her dogs Sofia and Toddy, and travel. She has visited 29 countries, but feels this is but a drop in the bucket! Shellwyn currently studies Portuguese, and knows the struggles of learning a foreign language. She lives in Brazil, and has over twelve years of experience crafting English lessons that capture student interest and motivation.عني كمعلّم
Italki 2022 Statistics: Shellwyn earned the title "Masterful Mentor"; her students come from 29 countries; and she taught for 31,920 minutes this year, landing her in the top 1% of all Italki teachers. For Shellwyn, teaching is a vocation--helping others learn and grow is an extremely satisfying profession! She has taught learners of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, in both public and private schools. Shellwyn earned her Doctorate in Education in 2009. She began teaching English professionally in 2012 (soon after she moved to Brazil) and earned a post-doctorate in Applied Linguistics in 2014. Shellwyn crafts lessons tailored to each individual student. Whether you are a beginner or advanced learner, or whether you need business, academic, or another kind of focus, she has the experience and skills to get the job done right. Shellwyn teaches using a communicative methodology, with imbedded grammar and clear learning objectives for each lesson. She recommends a 30 minute per day study habit, applying the 'slow drip' method, but this is adjustable according to the learner's needs. WA State Teaching Certificate - WA State, USA - 1998Public School Teaching Certificate, Art, Special Education, K-12. I taught 14 years in the Seattle Public Schools as an arts educator and teacher coach. The certificate is in the US (I live in Brazil) but can provide it later; I have put my doctoral transcript as a holding place.

I believe that Professor Shellwyn possesses her own unique teaching philosophy when it comes to English language instruction. Her resourcefulness, patience, and focus on developing students' communicative competence are particularly noteworthy. While I made many mistakes during her classes, she always assisted me in correcting them and provided guidance on various communicative contexts. Moreover, she is self-aware and understands the importance of not dominating the learning process but rather, affording me the opportunity and time to think and speak by myself.

Great lesson! I practiced conversation, pronunciation and vocabular. I described a picture and read interesting story about it, while learning specific vocabulary for humanitarian mental health. Practiced functional language and phrasal verbs.
