Hi, I'm Rob Powell, an experienced and qualified English teacher with a degree in photography. I'm certified with a PTLLS Level 4 teaching qualification and am currently living in Bogota, Colombia. I'm also studying Spanish and understand the challenges of learning a new language. I'm patient, supportive, and create a welcoming environment in my lessons. I encourage using real-life experience and a creative approach to learning. I provide a variety of links and materials to support my teaching and give further learning opportunities. Teaching conversational English is inspiring for me and I feel privileged to share with people from around the world.عني كمعلّم
I’m passionate about cultural exchange and use it as a natural foundation for learning English. My lessons are based on real-life situations, meaningful conversation, and a wide range of materials that help students engage with the language in a practical and enjoyable way.
Learning a new language isn’t just about grammar or vocabulary, it’s also about understanding different cultures and being able to communicate our own ideas. I believe learning works best when it’s driven by curiosity, enjoyment, and thoughtful conversation. I am an experienced and knowledgeable teacher looking to provide a fun and friendly class through real-life experiences, creativity and culture. I focus on expanding vocabulary, correcting errors, and improving fluency while also giving students the freedom to discuss a variety of topics.
I incorporate grammar instruction into my lessons to help students understand the underlying rules of the language. My goal is to provide a personalised and engaging learning experience that meets the needs of each individual student.

The lesson was great as always. Rob is very friendly and supportive. Besides teaching the language, he also brings lots of curious information about the UK culture and its difference from South America´s. As we are pushed to speak out about a big range of controversial issues, we can feel our speaking skills going to the next level.

Rob is an amazing tutor and person. He knows a lot and it seems that he is able to discuss any topic, asking questions you`d never thought of. He motivates you to learn and explore more about the world. Talking to him makes you think you can do anything! Thanks a lot, Rob!

I have tried 4/5 teachers on italki so far. Then I met Rob. Best teacher up to now in my opinion. This is my first review on italki and I would like to explain why in my view Rob is a good teacher.
He is very prepared. I like the way he focuses on you. Through conversation he understands your hobbies and interests and he asks to you questions and opinions about them. In this way you can improve your speaking skills. If you cannot understand something he writes the word on the chat and then he explains it. In this way you can learn new vocabularies. Moreover he corrects you “offline” without interrupt you. In this way you can learn from your mistakes.
Without any doubt I will continue to have lessons with him! :)
