Olá! I’m João, a certified European Portuguese tutor based in Lisbon. With a background in tourism, I specialize in practical language acquisition. I try to create a relaxed atmosphere with the students, so they can achieve their full potential while learning the language. My methodology is a mix between structured grammar with cultural immersion, focusing on conversational fluency for real-world use :)

Since I completed my TEFL certicate in 2017, I’ve taught both in the classroom and in private lessons, including nearly 5000 hours online. Teaching online requires a different set of skills as a teacher, and I believe over the past 5 years I have mastered these skills to provide a balance between learning grammar and vocabulary and spending as much time speaking and communicating as possible. دروسي وأسلوب تدريسي

If you are looking to improve your grammar, reading, writing and pronunciation skills, I have a wide range of materials I can provide. We can also have a mix, which works really well.

I feel much more confident at my A1–A2 level, and our conversational classes are always enjoyable. João is both patient and encouraging. It’s only been five classes, and I can already see an impressive difference in my speaking.

With João I have classes focused on Grammar and on Conversation. He uses many different resources, such as ebooks and articles, and is always well prepared. We do grammar exercises, read articles and talk about many different topics together so that I can learn new vocabulary easily. João is always encouraging and creates a safe environment so that it's easy for me to speak Portuguese. Obrigada João!

João has been my tutor for quite some time now. I'm very grateful to have him as my teacher. Although I still make some mistakes ( and sometimes the same mistakes 🙃🤭), he is always very patient and supportive. Definitely please pick him as your tutor!!!

I really enjoyed my first Portuguese lesson and will definitely be having them weekly! He’s a really good teacher who helps with pronunciation and uses examples and documents!

This was our last class of the year, and I’m very happy I found João. I’ve learned a lot and feel much more confident speaking Portuguese. I’m definitely continuing next year!
