I was born in Scotland and grew up in England where I went through school and university. Life as a teacher has taken me to many places, Spain, Hong Kong, Syria, Russia, India, but I am now settled in the Czech Republic where I live with my partner.
I enjoy walking and like to get out to the Czech countryside at the weekend, reading, and especially cooking, whether perfecting a boiled egg or attempting bao buns.عني كمعلّم
Over 30 years experience teaching English following my initial TEFL teaching certificate in 1993. Includes:
- General English teaching (mainly in Czech Republic and Spain) 1993-present.
- Exam preparation classes for IELTS and FCE/CAE.
- Specialist business English courses, e.g. Anderson Consulting in Spain, Al-Furat Petroleum for Engineers and Human Resources department in Syria, teacher training for Perm State Technical University in Perm, Russia.
- Master's level Trinity DipTESOL qualification in 2001.
- Cambridge speaking examiner.

Fundamentally, the class is about you, so it's important to identify the goals you have for learning the language, short and long term, and to ensure that the classes are working towards those goals.
It is not about me telling you what to say, but ensuring that you are able to say what you want to, to take from texts what you need, to be the person you are in another language.
This means that we will use whatever means is best suited to your needs and goals, whether that means listening to songs, grammar exercises or exchanging recipes for boiled eggs.
Importantly, classes need to be enjoyable and my job is to support your learning (although I do like to give homework!)الشهادات

I have worked as a Cambridge speaking examiner and currently work in assessment for Trinity College (University College London).
