I am born and raised in Canada, but have Japanese and Chinese parents. I have my Bachelor of Linguistics from Canada and I am currently studying in Türkiye for my Masters in Gastronomy. I am proficient in both English and Japanese, can speak a little bit of Mandarin, and have studied Turkish for several years. I love learning new languages and have also studied Arabic, Korean, Ukrainian, Hebrew, and Bengali in the past but I have had the most progress in Turkish. I also love cooking and homebrewing my own wines and beer!

I love meeting with all my students and being able to chat with them casually and as friends. I just know that there are people out there that could use a language partner who is a native speaker and I love the language learning journey so I am here to help. I am a super positive and excited person, and love chatting. I love meeting new people and hearing about others language learning journey! My lessons will be very relaxed and like you're video chatting with a friend! I will be available for conversation practice, help correct mistakes, and teach proper grammar, pronunciation, & useful phrases and expressions. I can easily tailor to your needs and what you want to learn and practice on. Several of my students enjoy my sentence translation exercises. I will give you a sentence in your native language and have you say that same sentence in the target language. I come up with fun, weird, obscure, but very useful sentences that will help with versatility.5.0

Hugh is incredibly friendly, perceptive, and intelligent. I have found he is able to customize the lesson to your needs effortlessly and with great skill, no matter how unconventional they might be. And he does so with clarity and a great sense of organization. He is truly bilingual in Japanese and English, which means you can communicate with true nuance in both languages. I think Hugh is terrific to work with, and I'm sure you will feel the same.

Hugh-san specifically prepared today’s lesson for my learning needs- today we learned a lot of sentences that don’t come up in textbooks. By doing sentence translations, I am forced to think about what I would say in everyday situations. Thanks a lot for the effort you put into (and before) our classes! I would highly recommend Hugh as a teacher

Hugh is a lovely teacher who is extremely easy to talk to. The lessons are very enjoyable, whether it is conversing in Japanese, or translating sentences. I am also amazed by his ability to not only converse in Japanese and English, but in multiple other languages as well!:) Hugh-さんはそごく相談しやすくて、レッスンはいつも楽しいです。いつもありがとうございます！

Enjoyed today’s lesson. It was comfortable and informative; I learn so much more having a human to talk to as opposed to an app. It had a good level of difficulty and it was catered toward the day-to-day conversations I would have. I also had all of my questions answered (yay).

Today's trial lesson was very meaningful because I was able to discuss the lesson method I wanted in Japanese. I'm excited for the next lesson, but I want to prepare better.
