Bonjour! My name is Kathryn and I graduated from the University of Virginia with a major in French. At UVA I applied and was accepted to live in the French House alongside my French-speaking peers and had the opportunity to attend many French cultural events hosted there. During the summer of 2018 I worked as an au pair for a French family. I spoke only French for these three months and learned what daily life in France feels like. After falling in love with the country and its culture, I returned to Lyon, France for a semester through my university's study abroad program and studied at Sciences Po and Lyon Lumière 2. I enjoy cooking, running, and spending my summers in France.
I enjoy and have experience teaching French to all ages. I have taught private and group lessons to both children and adults through the Alliance Française in my town, helped lead children's French immersion camps, and have worked most recently as a high school French teacher where I ran the French department and built its curriculum. I have really appreciated working with a variety of age groups and enjoy creating engaging lesson plans that correspond to my students' goals and current level of French. I am a patient, creative, and enthusiastic teacher. I am very passionate about the French language and am excited to help guide you on your journey to fluency!

I still teach at the French Alliance alongside my Italki lessons. البكالوريوس - FrenchI studied French during my time at UVA and took a variety of courses about the French language and culture. During my 3rd and 4th year, I lived in UVA's French house where I had the opportunity to live with my French-speaking peers and we were required to speak French together. The house also offered many cultural events throughout the year that I enjoyed attending. I was a member of Pi Delta Phi, the French National Honor Society and gave private French lessons in addition to my studies.

Au PairI lived with a French family during the summer of 2018 as an au pair. I took care of the family's three young girls, taught them English, and spent quality time with them during the day. I spoke only French with the family around the home for these three months in France and my spoken French quickly improved as I learned current French phrases and improved my pronunciation. I was immersed in French culture and learned what daily life in France feels like.
2019 - 2020
Private French Teacher / After school TeacherI have worked for the Alliance Française in my town as a private tutor and planned lessons depending on the age and French language level of my students. I have helped lead children's immersion camps and worked as a teacher in their after-school program where I taught a class of elementary students French once per week. I have taught online group lessons for children and adults as well. These various teaching opportunities have given me invaluable experience teaching French to many age groups.
2020 - 2021
High School French TeacherI have worked at The Covenant School as a high school French teacher. I taught grades 9-12 and managed the entire French department. I was responsible for planning comprehensive lessons for my students, preparing assessments, evaluating student work, and making sure that students were progressing in their study of French. This job gave me a lot of experience working with the high school age group as well as planning assessments and engaging lesson plans.

After learning French from Kathryn during the last few months of last year, I’m ecstatic to continue in her class for 2024!
She is truly the best French teacher. Her extensive knowledge and fluency of the French language inspire me. Also, Kathryn continues to be very kind and supportive throughout my studies. She is consistently prompt, well prepared and organized, which I appreciate. Furthermore, if you’re like me and want homework assignments, she is diligent in assigning homework in between classes as well. I love class with Kathryn.

We have had many great teachers from italki whom we have loved. But nobody has done as well as Kathryn for our 9 year old. When he finishes, he literally comes to us and says; “book more lessons, I need more lessons with her! French is life!”

Kathryn has taught both of my children. She prepared both my kids for French in public school in Basel, Switzerland. Both my children got high marks in French. My oldest son got in the best secondary school and best learning track as a DaZ student, Deutsch als Zweitesprache. Every point matters in order to get on the best learning track. If you want your child to learn French efficiently with a perfect French accent, she's the best teacher. Quality learning, nice, always ready to teach class, and has made learning fun! After ever class my oldest son says, that was so fun!
