I‘m’ Ken .A native speaker of Chinese. I'm eager to help you improve your Chinese and understanding of Chinese culture, via Italki.
I have a degree in Chinese language and literature. I have a keen interest in classical Chinese culture, especially pre-Qin culture. I also like Tang poetry, Song Ci, Yuan Qu and novels from the Ming and Qing dynasties very much. If you like Chinese culture as much as I do, I'm sure we'll find many topics of common interest to have a conversation about. It would be my honor to have the opportunity to help you with your Chinese studies.
Chinese is a very attractive language, it has a good rhythm, beautiful handwriting, what's more, there is a story behind every Chinese character. The evolution of Chinese characters is the history of China. Therefore, if you want to learn Chinese fully, you must understand The history and culture of China.
My Mandarin level is grade 1 b. This level is second only to that of a professional broadcaster . So if you want to practice pronunciation and dialogue training, I would be your best candidate.

I've been working with Ken for about 5 years now and highly recommend him! He is always patient and punctual and cheerful and engaged. He makes an effort to find relevant topics of interest to discuss and is happy to divert to grammar, culture and vocab questions. Our classes are typically half an hour of general current affairs or life chat in Chinese and then for half an hour I read aloud a transcript of a suitable podcast I have found and he helps with vocab and grammar questions. He is flexible for any lesson format you would like.

I started a new project with Ken today, which is to write some stories about my long life, using Chinese, and then edit my writing during the lesson. We used a Google Doc to do this. This was very enjoyable because Ken is versatile and always adapts the lesson to suit the student. He corrected some sentences and suggested better vocabulary, but he also asked questions about my story so that we had a far ranging conversation. Ken has a lot of knowledge and is curious about European history and culture which gave depth to his questions. It was easier for me to speak Chinese because I had already written about the topic.

I recommend learning history with Ken. He knows and loves Chinese history well and helps you read it. Don’t think your Chinese isn’t good enough, Ken can use simple sentences to explain the stories and clarifies the vocabulary. He even knows European history to make comparisons, and it is always a lively and enjoyable lesson.
