I have been playing music for 12 years Both denote a situation that started in the past and still continues… Thanx in advance!!!!

I wonder if there is any difference between 'over the last...' and 'over the past...'. For example, in these two sentences, can we use 'over the past' and 'over the last' interchangeably? Those are pictures of the storms taken over the past few years. I’ve heard a lot about my job relocation over the last few days.
