How to ask "How Much" in chinese correctly?
Descripción
In Chinese, both "jǐ" and "duōshǎo" mean "how much," but they are used very differently when shopping!
【Explanation】
“几 (jǐ)”:问小额 (Small Amounts)
Usually for things expected to be under 10 or very cheap (within a few tens).
Pinyin: jǐ kuài qián?
“多少 (duōshǎo)”:问大额 (Large/Unknown Amounts)
It can be used for any price, but it's essential when you expect a high price or are unsure of the range.
Pinyin: duōshǎo qián?
(At a street stall for water)
(Lǎobǎn, zhè shuǐ jǐ kuài?)
Expectation: It's cheap, maybe 2 or 3 RMB.
(In a mall for a phone)
(Qǐngwèn, zhège shǒujī duōshǎo qián?)
Expectation: It's expensive, maybe thousands.
