Errors are not evidence of failure. They are how learning happens. This class covers the psychology of learning a language. It explains which errors matter (offence first, comprehension second, correctness last) and how to get corrected in a culture that will politely praise you instead. It also teaches what to do in the moment a correction comes, and works through the three biggest obstacles: the fear of looking foolish, the plateau, and fossilisation. Words and phrases in this class: തെറ്റ് (thettu) – mistake ശരി (shari) – correct, right ഞാൻ തെറ്റ് പറഞ്ഞാൽ പറയണം (njaan thettu paranjaal parayanam) – if I say something wrong, please tell me ഇത് ശരിയാണോ? (ithu shariyaano?) – is this correct? ഇത് എങ്ങനെയാണ് ശരിക്കും പറയേണ്ടത്? (ithu enganeyaanu sharikkum parayendathu?) – how should this really be said? ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞത് മനസ്സിലായോ? (njaan paranjathu manassilaayo?) – did you understand what I said? ദയവായി എന്നെ തിരുത്തണം (dayavaayi enne thiruthanam) – please correct me തിരുത്തുക (thiruthuka) – to correct നന്നായി പറയുന്നുണ്ടല്ലോ (nannaayi parayunnundallo) – you speak well (the praise you will hear) മനസ്സിലായില്ല (manassilaayilla) – I didn't understand നന്ദി (nandi) – thank you In this class: • Why speaking at the edge of your ability is how you improve • Error triage: offence, then comprehension, then correctness • Asking for correction, and what to do the moment you get it • The fear of looking foolish, the plateau, and fossilisation Quizzes below.
