The difference between two verbs: to allow and to permit.

What's the difference?

Allow VS Permit

xiǎo mǎ yào guò hé， kàn jian yì tóu lǎo niú zài hē shuǐ 。 
小  马 要 过 河 ， 看  见一 头 老 牛 在喝  水。
xiǎo mǎ wèn：“  niú bó bo， wǒ yào guò hé，  shuǐ shēn ma ？”
小  马  问:“牛 伯伯, 我 要 过 河，水   深  吗?”
lǎo niú shuō：“ shuǐ hěn qiǎn，  nǐ guò de qù 。”
老 牛  说:“水 很  浅， 你 过 得去。”
xiǎo mǎ tīng le lǎo niú de huà， zhèng yào guò hé，  tū rán，
小  马 听 了 老 牛 的 话，正  要  过 河，突 然，
yì zhī xiǎo sōngshǔ cóng shùshang tiào xia lai，   dà shēnq shuō ，
一只  小  松 鼠  从   树 上   跳 下 来，大  声   说，
“xiǎo mǎ，  bié guò hé！ shuǐ shēn de hěn ne！  nǐ huì yān sǐ de！”  
“小马，别  过 河!水  深 得  很 呢! 你会 淹 死的!”
tīng le xiǎo sōng shǔ de huà ， xiǎo mǎ bù zhī dào gāi zěn me bàn，
听  了 小  松  鼠 的 话，小  马 不 知  道 该 怎 么 办，
zhǐ hǎo huí jiā wèn māma。   māma shuō：“  hái zi，  lǎo niú yòu gāo yòu dà，
只 好 回 家  问 妈 妈。 妈 妈  说:“孩子， 老 牛 又 高  又 大，
tā huì jué de shuǐ hěn qiǎn；
他 会 觉 得 水  很  浅；
sŌng shǔ nà me xiǎo，  tā yí dìng huì shuō shuǐ hěn shēn 。 
松   鼠 那 么 小，他 一 定 会  说  水  很 深。
hé shuǐ shì shēn hái shì qiǎn，  zuì hǎo nǐ zì jǐ qù shì shi 。”
河 水 是  深  还 是 浅， 最 好你自己去试试。”
xiǎo mǎ tīng le mā ma de huà，  yòu pǎo dào hé biān， xiǎo xīn de guò le hé 。  
小   马    听 了妈 妈  的  话，又 跑到河边，小心地过了河。
yuán lái， hé shuǐ jì bú xiànq lǎo niú shuō de nà yàng qiǎn，
原来，河水既不像老牛说的那样浅，
yě bú xiànq sōnq shǔ shuō de nà yànq shēn
也不像 松鼠说的那样深。
