もなく洞穴へ帰ってきた子狐は、　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
「お母ちゃん、おててが冷たい、」
と言って、ぬれて牡丹色になった両手を
母さん狐の前に さしだしました。
母さん狐は、その手に、は―っと息をふっかけて、
ぬくとい母さんの手でやんわり包んでやりながら、
「もうすぐ暖かくなるよ、雪をさわると、
　すぐ暖かくなるもんだよ」　　　
といいましたが、かわいい ぼうやの手に
しもやけが できては かわいそうだから、
夜になったら町まで行って、
ぼうやの おててに あうような 毛糸の手袋を
買ってやろうと思いました。

Inside a Cafe Bar

 The idiom "to take its toll" means to be damaging or harmful, cause loss or destruction. It is often used to describe the negative effects of something over time, such as a health problem taking its toll on both sides. The phrase is derived from the taking of a toll, like a  tax. It can also be used to describe the negative effects of stress on people, such as the constant stress taking its toll on emergency hospital staff.

Today I look at the phrasal verb "to snap up". Winston Churchill's False Teeth sell for £18,000 and I look at the song lyrics "They Don't Know" by Tracey Ullman.
