There is no single "Indian accent". A speaker's home language gently shapes their English, just as Spanish, German or Japanese shape the English of their speakers. This episode is a respectful listening tour of the north and west, describing sound tendencies only, so your ear can adjust. What you will learn: • How to use the tour: tendencies found in some speakers, never labels • Hindi-influenced English: a short "i" before S-clusters, a breathy dental T for TH, Z as J, F as PH • Punjabi-influenced English: strong pitch movement, held double consonants, a clear R • Haryanvi-influenced English, briefly • Gujarati-influenced English: Z as J, and short and long vowels sounding closer • Marathi-influenced English: crisp retroflex sounds, and "na" as a friendly "please" • Other languages of the region, and one method that works for all • Practice sentences, six listening strategies and self-check questions Level: B1–B2. Self-study: listen, then take the quizzes. Audio voiced with AI from an original script by Dr. Rashmi R Nair.
