Level B2 (approx. band 5.5-6.5) · Academic and General Training In matching headings, you get a list of headings, and you choose the best heading for each paragraph. It sounds simple, but it is one of the slowest tasks in the Reading test. Most learners match a heading to a paragraph because they see the same word in both. In this episode: • Main idea versus detail • Topic sentences • Eliminating distractor headings • A time-saving order • Reading lab • Language bridge • Practice • Self-check questions with answers Key points: • A heading summarises the whole paragraph. A shared word proves nothing. • Start with the first and last sentences, but watch for a change of direction. • Cross out headings that are only a detail, too broad, or in the wrong direction. • Do the clearest paragraph first, shortlist, and then decide by comparing exact meaning.
