Plovdiv is the fourth best travel destination in Europe in 2022.

في أحد أحياء المدينة،
كان هناك مقهى صغير.

ليس مشهورًا،
ولا فخمًا،
ولا يلفت الانتباه.

طاولات خشبية قديمة،
كراسٍ غير متشابهة،
ورائحة قهوة لا تتغير.

عندما بدأت الحرب،
أُغلقت المحال واحدًا تلو الآخر.
الشوارع فرغت،
والأبواب أُقفلت.

إلا هذا المقهى.

في الصباح،
كان صاحبه يفتح الباب كعادته،
يمسح الطاولات،
ويشغّل الغلاية.

لم يكن يفعل ذلك تحدّيًا،
ولا شجاعةً خارقة،
بل عادة.

كان يقول:
“إذا أغلقتُ المقهى،
فماذا بقي طبيعيًا؟”

كان الزبائن قلّة.
رجل مسنّ يجلس قرب النافذة،
شاب يكتب في دفتر صغير،
وعامل يطلب قهوته ثم يرحل سريعًا.

أحيانًا،
كان صوت الانفجارات قريبًا.
فتسكت الأحاديث،
وتبقى القهوة ساخنة.

لم يكن المقهى مكانًا للكلام عن الحرب،
بل مكانًا للهروب منها.

هنا،
يتحدث الناس عن أشياء بسيطة:
سعر الخبز،
مباراة كرة قدم،
ذكريات قديمة.

ومع كل يوم يمرّ،
صار المقهى شيئًا آخر.

صار علامة.
دليلًا على أن الحياة
لم تستسلم بعد.

حتى عندما انقطعت الكهرباء،
أشعل صاحبه شمعة.
وعندما نفدت القهوة الجيدة،
قال مبتسمًا:
“المهم أن نجلس معًا.”

لم يُكتب عن هذا المقهى في الأخبار،
ولم يظهر في الصور.

لكنه بقي مفتوحًا،
رغم كل شيء.

لأن بعض الأماكن
لا تعيش بالجدران،
بل بالناس…
وبالإصرار الهادئ.

Today, I want to share with you a Lithuanian folktale that has its roots deeply embedded in the past, far predating any traces of written Lithuanian. Eglė Žalčių Karalienė is a tale about sorcery, unpredicted love and involuntary betrayal, that has been passed on verbally for millennia. Rich in mythology and life lessons, I believe it would make a great listen for anyone interested in Lithuania, its culture and language.
