What means “coopted” in this sentence? I didn’t find it in the dictionary. religious enlightened coopted the idea of natural religion to revealed religion, thereby making a radical idea of seventeenth century entirely conventional in the eighteenth.

It should be spelled with a hyphen, "co-opted." It means to deal with opposition by bringing your opponents into your group. I can't explain your sentence because I don't have the background, so I'll use a different example. William H. Seward ran against Abraham Lincoln for the Republican nomination for President. He was Lincoln's opponent. He lost. Lincoln became President. Even though Seward had been his opponent, Lincoln appointed him to the position of Secretary of State. It's one of the most important offices in the USA government. Seward couldn't refuse. Now that he was part of Lincoln's government, he couldn't oppose Lincoln any more. Seward had been co-opted.

"Co-opt" comes from two Latin roots. "Co" means "with". "Opt" comes from the verb "to choose". When you co-opt something (or someone) it means that you choose to join them "with" you. That can mean turning them into allies, using their ideas, or arranging for them to labor somehow on your behalf.

First of all the paragraph isn’t written properly. Coopted isn’t spelled correctly either. The correct spelling is “co-opted”. I think that the use of co-opted here refers to using or adopting an idea from another culture or belief system for your self.
