WHEN TO USE "YO TAMBIÉN"/"A MÍ TAMBIÉN" AND "YO TAMPOCO"/"A MÍ TAMPOCO" IN SPANISH I have noticed that several of my students have trouble using these expressions when they speak Spanish, so I decided to write this small article in order to help other Italki users who might have trouble with this. Both expressions ("yo también" and "yo tampoco") are responses to a statement said by another person in conversation. They can be translated into English like this: "Yo también" = me too "Yo tampoco" = me neither. Therefore, "yo también" is used as a response to a positive statement, while "yo tampoco" is used as a response to a negative statement. Here are some examples of conversations in Spanish in which these responses are used: "Creo que iré a la fiesta de graduación el sábado". "¿En serio? ¡Yo también! ¡Nos vemos allí!" "No quiero ir a trabajar esta mañana". "Yo tampoco". "Estoy cansado de vivir en esta ciudad". "Yo también, deberíamos mudarnos a Barcelona". "No creo que Antonio sea capaz de hacer algo así". "Yo tampoco. Él siempre ha sido amable conmigo". Instead "a mí también" and "a mí tampoco" are used as a response when somebody expresses a statement in which there is an indirect object. They are used to express agreement and disagreement as well. We use them when we express likes and dislikes or we talk about what we feel like doing. In the same way "a mí también" is a response to a positive statement, while "a mí tampoco" is a response to a negative statement. Here are some examples: "Me encantan las películas en blanco y negro". "A mí también". "Los de la empresa no me han llamado para la entrevista de trabajo". "A mí tampoco". "Hoy me apetece comer comida tailandesa". "¡A mí también! Han abierto un nuevo restaurante, deberíamos ir". "No me gusta nada la actitud de Teresa". "A mí tampoco.
