I am currently taking a Sign Language class as part of my university curriculum. Today was a important day for me because we had to give a speech in class about a topic we like. I chose to talk about my trip to Okinawa that I went on this summer. Through for this class I felt that Sign Language is a truly deep and rewarding language to learn. I think the most amazing part of Sign Language is that we can express so many different emotions and meanings using only our hands and facial expressions. Originally, my interest in Sign Language began when I was inspired by watching TV dramas that featured it, and I also thought that mastering this skill would be useful for my future career. However, since I started studying it seriously in college, my perspective on what it means to be deaf has changed significantly. In the past, I simply felt fear when imagining a world without sound. I only focused on the sadness of not being able to hear the voices of my precious family and friends or the sounds of everyday life. But as I study more, I have realized that communication through Sign Language is incredibly careful and attentive. It requires us to really look at each other, which creates a sincere connection. This realization gives me strong motivation. I believe that if I can use Sign Language well, I might be able to help others in the future. Although there are still so many things I do not know yet, I am determined to continue studying Sign Language on my own even after this university course is finished.
