AWKWARD.... Are there any words in your language that are difficult or impossible to translate to other languages? The word "awkward" is that way in English. Awkward is that perfect blend of embarrassment, discomfort and uncertainty that arises in social situations, either from an uncomfortable silence or because of something someone has either said or done. It sounded like someone burped, and then everything felt awkward. It might be an awkward topic for you, but... Wow...that was an awkward silence! Mr. Bean is an awkward guy, because what seems to be a social "norm" to him makes others uncomfortable. He always makes a situation awkward.

There are a lot of English Idioms that don't translate to Korean and vice versa. The word crazy in English doesn't translate well at all lol. Americans don't always mean it in a bad way and it's not the same in Korean. 눈치 in Korean doesn't really have an English equivalent, but the closest is maybe to have a lot of insight, or to have the gift of discernment? It means to be able to "read a room" and pick up on emotions well without being told, kinda. I think it's so cool how some things just have to be felt in other languages and can't really be explained! Makes it hard for us learners though.

In portuguese we would say that awkward is "estranho" or "esquisito". It depends on the context! How about "saudade"? Saudade is the feeling of missing someone. But there's no such word in english :D By the way, Mr. Bean is just fabulous.

It's not though. We say "неловко" in Russian.

There are a lot in Xhosa and we even have a saying that goes like 'isiXhosa asitolikwa' meaning Xhosa is not translatable. Besides that Xhosa is an awesome language, very phonetic and easy to learn. 🤷🏽‍♀️
