Hi Everyone.
I have a question regarding pinyin.
My teachers separate the pinyin, but on Youtube/internet learning sites, the pinyin is combined.
Example.
Teacher = hen gao xing ren shi ni
Youtube/internet = hen gaoxing renshi ni
The above example applies to literally everything.
Which is correct?
The problem, and it's a BIG problem, is when I'm learning from the internet and trying to figure out individual words.
On the internet if I see "juede" and my teacher teaches me something and it is "jue de" I don't make the connection.
I want my teachers and the internet resources to be consistent so I don't have 2 different "styles."
When I see "juede" on the internet I don't know to separate it into "jue de" like my teacher does.
Thanks!

Hi Dan! Your question is very good👍👏I noticed that too. And your teachers are right:) While for the Chinese, we all can seperate the combined PinYin easily.
Why?
Because we've learned Pin Yin systematically in school and we know all the rules. Take "juede" for example, we will never end up by "ju / ede" as it's against the rules.
You might not be interested in learning Pin Yin systematically. To solve the problem, my suggestion is : learn new characters by Pin Yin, then try your best to build up the connections between the characters and the pronounciations, and leave Pin Yin behind. In my opinion, that would be the right direction to go if you're very serious about learning Chinese:)

Your teacher is right, when we learned pin yin ,we don‘t join them together.

Both are correct. But in a Chinese sentence, words won't be separated like those in English. In Chines primary school, children will learn single Chines character(and the pronounce of it) first, then the words and sentences. It's similar to your teacher's style.

Teachers way: focusing more on each character’s syllable.
Internet way: more prioritized about the pronunciation of each vocab.
