I'm not sure if the is actually wrong, but I've never seen or heard BELL used as a verb that way. 7) My friend has a mute cat, so he belled it so that he can always hear it and know where it is. Same as number 6 8) Yesterday I met my friend's boyfriend. I think we had already met as his name rings a bell, but I don't remember when. (Can "a face" ring a bell? When for example someone's face looks familiar, but I don't remember where I've already seen him/her) I disagree with the other poster - 'his/her face rings a bell' is a very common saying. Maybe it's not technically correct, but it's quite commone for native US speakers. There's even a dumb joke that makes use of that phrase. 9) While I was cooking, the doorbell rang. 10) I'll give you a ring/buzz/jingle (slang) as soon as I have some news. I don't think BELL is used this way. At least I've never heard it. 11) When my mother found out that I was spending all my money, her alarm bells started ringing. 12) My brother's reactions should make our alarm bells ring.

Just to say “I’ll give you a bell” is perfectly normal English from England.

"Ring a bell" only refers to names or things we've heard before. 9) While I was cooking, the doorbell rang. 10) I'll give you a bell as soon as I have some news. In this case, I thing you mean to say, "I'll give you a ring." "Bell" is not commonly used in this construction. 11) When my mother found out that I was spending all my money, her alarm bells started ringing. 12) My brother's reactions should make our alarm bells ring.
