Do both sentences mean exactly the same thing?
1) We are all getting new laptops courtesy of a local charity.
2) We are all getting new laptops given by a local charity.

The basic meaning is the same, but the first sentence shows a bit more gratitude to the local charity, while the second sentence is neutral.

They do convey the same message, but I would not say it has exactly the same meaning. "Courtesy of" is much more polite and implies you are thanking the local charity and are very grateful to them, whereas to say it was just "given" describes what they have done for you with no emotion behind it.
