I wrote a speech about my thoughts on determinism. Can you guys check this for me? Or are there any suggestions I can use to improve my speech? Thanks. First, I want to explain what determinism is. Determinism denies the existence of free will and believes that personalities and actions only depend on the environment and that factors can’t be changed or altered. Next, I will explain determinism with syllogism. The major premise is “The past cannot be changed.” The minor premise is “The future will eventually be the past.” The conclusion is “The future will eventually be the past.” Our endings or futures depend on every choice we make. Biologically and psychologically speaking, the choices we make depend on our personalities. And our personalities depend on our genes and cognitions. Genes are something we can’t change. Our cognitions, however, depend on environmental factors such as family, education, culture, climate, etc. The environment we are in can be classified as one of two types. The first type is the living environment which includes all the life forms that surround us. When it comes to lives, they all make choices. This goes back to the beginning of choice, except some lives can only make choices that depend on their genes, like germs. The second type is the non-living environment. True, we can change the non-living environment. But when we change it, we make choices. This again goes back to the beginning. In conclusion, our lives are just a complicated interaction between genes and non-life forms. In other words, we can’t change our future because there is a destiny for us.

The rest part of my speech. However, this theory doesn’t explain the quantum theory. Because as we know, quantum theory is about uncertainty and randomness when we are not observing. In the case of future, we can’t ever know our future, which means the future is uncertain to us. And we can’t travel through time to see the future for ourselves, which means the future can’t be observed. So future is actually quantum. The material world is certain for sure, so the uncertainty of the world that makes future uncertain is our spirits or minds. This confirms the existence of free will. And the defect of previous syllogism is revealed by this point. The major premise was right, but the minor premise was wrong. Is the future that becomes the past still the future? I don’t think so. Because the only way we can observe future is by experiencing it. But once the future is experienced, it would be the past. So, in conclusion, we can indeed do something to change our future.
