What is the meaning of "read back in someone" in military jargon? Does it mean 'establishing contact with someone again'? Or may be 'to have someone's back during a mission'.

Read-back is a procedure in which a station that received a message repeats the message, or a significant part of the message, back to the transmitting station for the reason of confirming that the information received was correct.
It is utilized in military settings.
