How to translate a diminutive without losing its cute, affectionate tone when there’s no exact equivalent word in English or another language?

You just have to find some native diminutive terminology that sufficiently resembles the original, else choose between sacrificing literal meaning vs sacrificing tone.
In this context, if you say 'little trees', it kind of has the right tone, because although 'little trees' can be plain, cold, dry terminology in forestry, it's a bit fun & quirky for cutting broccoli.
