The news is well-known. (Established means that it has been around a long time, and wouldn’t work in this context).

The FACT may be well-established. I wouldn't say the NEWS is established. The NEWS would be well-known.

Yes, if you want you can also cut out the news altogether and assert that the fact is well established.
It is well established that X is dating Y.
