One pro of online communication is that it is convenient. I can talk with people from all over the world on italki whenever I want. Also I can save the commute fee to go to school. On the other hand, one con of online communication is that I don't feel the atmosphere of having a conversation in person. It makes it difficult for me to understand their personalities.
