Today in Mexico we celebrate Accountant’s day (my day!) although many people don’t know this date. I have felt awkward on many occasions when people ask me “What do you do?” and I answer “I am an accountant”. People say things like “Oh, really?”, “You do not look like an accountant”, “Why did you study accounting? You look like you have another profession”, etc. And I have to give the same answer all the time. I remember my different phases when I was younger, thinking “I will be a doctor”, “I will be a teacher”, “I will be an architect”, “I will be a professional soccer player”, “I will be a writer” etc. However, when the long-anticipated day arrived, I didn’t have any idea what I wanted to study, many doubts appeared in my mind because I had to take a huge important step in my life. I also remember choosing my bachelor’s degree one night before the day I had to send my solicitude (? Do you mean “application?) to the college, many people could not believe I chose this career but I remember my mom’s words “Be what you want to be but study for a better life. No matter what other people think”. And over the years I have realized that what I’ve wanted since I was a little girl was to “be my own boss”, having my own business. Being an accountant has helped me a lot to understand how the business and economic worlds work, and I am still discovering new areas. I am also preparing to study the area of sustainable business because for me it is very important to take care of our world and if I cannot change the way the world works, I want to help make it a better world. #HelpMeCorrect
