A person’s half-sister is someone who has either the same mother or the same father as them. Stepsister is a daughter from an earlier marriage.

A step-sibling is someone not related to you by blood. So say your father or mother marry someone one else who already have children then they are your step-sibling. A half sibling is someone who shares one parent with you. So maybe you have the same mom but not the same dad.
