A general answer, without knowing context, is that external evidence is found on the outside. Internal evidence is found within. For ex) if the police were investigating corruption and they found external evidence, this would have been discovered in the general public outside of the police dept. If they were to discover internal evidence, then this would have been discovered within the police dept amongst the people that work there. :)
