The active voice asserts that the person or thing represented by the grammatical subject performs the action represented by the verb. Bell invented the telephone in the last century. Active voice: The telephone (object) The passive voice makes the subject the person or thing acted on or affected by the action represented by the verb. The telephone was invented by Bell in the last century. Passive voice: The telephone (subject) Hope this helps 👩‍🏫😄

It's the object.

Hey Noni! The telephone is the object since something has been done to it. The subject is the doer, in this case, Bell. The object has something done to it. Hope I could've helped:)

A subject does something. An object has something done to it. This is more important than word order in deciding what is the subject and object of a sentence. Did the telephone do something or have something done to it? It had something done to it. What? Someone invented it! Therefore it must be the object. And did Bell do something or have something done to him? He did something. What? He invented something Therefore he must be the subject. Some passive sentences have two objects but that’s another topic!
