I visited many temples and shrines in Kyoto. They’re too beautiful for words. I think Japanese culture is so wonderful.

Present perfect ("I have visited") is better in this instance than simple past ("I visited") because you are describing an experience that you now have. Use present perfect when you are listing your experiences:
"I have had the chickenpox."
"I have studied French."
"I have had two children."
Those can also be stated using simple past:
"I had the chickenpox."
"I studied French."
"I had two children."
The two ways of speaking are equally correct and the information is essentially the same. The difference is that the first tells of three experiences that you NOW have whereas the second tells of three things that happened in the past. That is a big difference! Pay attention to it!
People often get confused about this difference. Some people mistakenly believe that the present perfect is always used to indicate some sort of time frame, such as action initiated recently and continuing to the present. (With context it can mean that, but without context it does not.)
