English isn't my first language and I'm at an intermediate level. I've noticed something frustrating.
When I'm reading or listening, I recognize lots of words. But when I actually start speaking, those words disappear from my mind. I end up using the same simple vocabulary over and over, even though I know more than that.
Does anyone else have this? What have you tried to fix it? Has anything actually worked — an app, a method, a tutor, anything? Did you pay for something or just use free resources?(

It can happen to students who have not learned all areas at the same time. In Portugal, for example, when we learn languages, we work all areas. We practice listening, speaking, reading, written expression, etc.

Greetings Aurelia, in addition to all the wonderful counsel that the qualified teachers have already given you, I would like to add a detail that proved to be useful in my personal experience.
Haven't you ever wondered how we can recognize physical places and remember how to find our way around once we have come to know a certain area really well? This is what allows us to carry on with our normal activities: errands, go to school and come back home etc.
Something similar happens with words: there are different degrees of "knowing" a word, recognition is a good start, but it won't always be enough.
My humble suggestion would be for you to find a teacher who:
• is experienced in memory,
• is able to connect abstract thoughts to concrete places
• is skillful in showing you how to simplify phrase formation, so that you can put all these words to use with minimal energy in real time by means of a systematic approach
Great day to all ☀️ 😁

You are not the only one.it’s common, it takes time and a lot of practice to bring those words into conversations that you have already memorized. My advice would be try to speak and use those words again and again until you feel those words and then you would never forget those words when you speak,Good luck .

Hi Aurelia. You are experiencing what everyone goes through.
My best advice is to find a teacher who will focus on helping you practice your English on different contexts and drawing your attention to the structures and fixed expressions we use on those contexts.
It's hard work and there is no magic solution but over time you will make the connections between your knowledge and when and how we use the grammar
