Having a good university degree guarantees people a good job?

I don’t think that university plays much role in getting a good job. Actually in job’s exams and interviews, individual’s talent, confidence, command on specific field and other factors matter regardless of an institution in which a person got education. University is an institution where we just enhance our knowledge regarding particular area of study. And university students are not supposed to depend completely on their teachers, because at this stage, self study creates huge difference in an individual and decide the later part of life. It all depends on an individual that what is his/her behavior towards his/her studies. Many students graduate from Oxford University but few become the legendary one like Bill Clinton, William Golding, Benazir Bhutto and etc. In the same manner, there are some utterly famous personalities who were poorly educated, like Abraham Lincoln, Steve Jobs and etc. (for more…… have a look on it http://listverse.com/2013/01/20/10-poorly-educated-but-incredibly-successful-people/;). To conclude, university won’t do anything when an individual does not want to study, and if a student is determined enough and has thirst for acquiring knowledge regarding his interested field then institutions won’t make any difference, and jobs would make row in front of that talented being.

I don't totally agree with you.

Having a degree opens the door to certain job interviews. It's then upto the applicant's talent to get that job. Doctors, nurses, vets, lawyers, structural engineers, civil engineers need to go to university to get a degree.

There is also that "career barrier" where those that do not have a degree don't get promoted or selected.

Yes there are countless success stories of people who don't have degrees, but are there examples of people who don't have degrees and didn't make it? No.

You have majored in English, so you went to uni. So what are your plans?

Having a degree is a benefit and not a hindrance and in some countries it's an honour. It now depends on what you do with your life and whether you use it.

Don't be fooled by these stories, as wonderful as they are. Not everybody has that exceptional ability to be a world beater.

And there is the list of top universities, which is regarded. And some companies pay attention to what university you’ve graduated from. The thing that employers don’t care about is a grade of your university certificate. When you come to an interview the employer just talks to you, give you some tests to check your knowledge and skills. He wants to discover your personality, to imagine how would you treat your colleagues and customers, how would you resolve conflict situations. Your degree is just support for your personality.
