how to start a talk When we chat with someone oline, we just say"在？"in Chinese to find out if he or she is free to chat. But when chatting with a friend in English , i do not know what to say except "Are you free now?" .Can anyone help me ?

I rarely ask if someone is free to talk in that precise moment, feels just not polite, I would go with

"Would you like to have a call this week?" and then set a time for it. Or "Would you like to have a call today/this evening/this afternoon?", if you have some sudden free time.

If you really need it, you can say "Hey, do you have a few minutes to talk? I wanted to ask you something".
