What does "Nuclear winter is coming" mean? I saw "Nuclear winter is coming" on many of images relating to Star Wars, and GOT. How do they concern?

They are saying there is potential nuclear war in the future. The clouds of dust and debris from all the nuclear bombs supposedly would block the sun and cause a "winter" effect
