Some people have mentioned that other people's point counts can be helpful in selecting a language partner. 

A guy who says "I'm looking for a hot chick to be my language partner," joined italki yesterday, and has only a few points is a probably less desirable partner than someone who says "Perhaps we can help each other improve our language skills," joined a few months ago, and has a large number of points.
