What's the meaning of "get water on the ear" ?
They talked at me and talked until I got water on the ear.

I've never heard that expression. It almost sounds like it's been translated from another language. Here are some English idioms that can be used if someone is talking too much:
That guy talked my ear off.
That guy kept talking, but I finally tuned out and started daydreaming.
That guy was a motor mouth and wouldn't shut up!
After a while, all I saw was his chin wagging while I thought about something else.

I am not sure I have heard that expression before, so perhaps someone will correct me. My interpretation from the context is that it is the same as another expression ¨until I tuned them out,¨ meaning that the listening person could no longer hear, or at least pay attention, to what they are saying. When our ears are full of water, we can not hear as well.

I was reading a fiction translated by Saul Bellow, and came across this sentence. I guess it implies that the guy got bored with others' talking to him without a stop.
