"Polish is French of Slavic languages" and the Lexical Distance Diagram
I recalled today the statement mentioned in the title. Unfortunately, didn't manage with googling the author of it. (but I have a feeling that the author is Nietzsche) Has anyone heard these words or does anybody know who the author is?
What is more, I looked at this(https://goo.gl/zLd02G) diagram and find out that the English-French and Russian-Polish lexical distances are the same. Might it be, that learning of Polish is as hard for Russian speaker as learning of French for English speaker?*
*I understand that the aforementioned diagram is just a rough approximation and should not be relied on blindly - https://alternativetransport.wordpress.com/2017/03/08/lexical-distance-a-hoax/

I don't know this expression but I partially agree with it.
Polish language is more difficult for understanding in the same way as French because of complicated pronunciation and many unique sounds.
But for me as Ukrainian it is more easy to understand Polish that Bulgarian for example, even though the diagram shows the same distance. And even though Bulgarians write in Cyrillic as we do, I can hardy understand a word, while I can easily catch simple information from the Polish text written in Latin letters.

It is hard to compare because the English language is still a Germanic language by origin while Polish and Russian are Slavic but Polish is Western Slavic language and they have different alphabet
