I think it's a great tool, but it doesn't have a good accuracy. For that, it is enough that the student also has knowledge in interpretation of text, even basic, to make corrections in the text that GTranslator presents.

Sadly, it isn't very accurate when translating more than a few words at a time. It translates very literally, most of the time. It doesn't handle idioms and slang well at all.

It's good for simple words, but not for full sentences. Also it can't translate idiomatic expressions (which English speakers use a lot of). Personally, I prefer to use a bilingual online dictionary

I have come across some major problems when using it from French to English and vice-versa. I don't recommend it as your sole source of translation. I trust WordReference much more than Google. Some things are just too complex, are too idiomatic, or require context for Google.
