*I'm very confused

As far as I know, "to assess" means to figure out a price or a monetary value. "To evaluate" is to judge the condition or the quality. This is how I use these words (in NJ/NY) so others may disagree.

They can be synonyms in some contexts. Do you have a sample sentence?

To be confused (by)
To confuse someone → to make someone confused
To confuse something → to wrongly identify

I am confused by phrasal verbs.
I confuse people when I talk fast in English.
I confuse "poder" and "conseguir" when I talk in Portuguese.

Sorry for the late reply! :-)
Edit: spelling

Both Lauren and Ruth have provided good answers.

Here is a much more detailed explanation of the two words:

**********************************************************************************

Assess can mean: appraise, check, determine, estimate, fix, gauge, judge, OR impose, levy, tax, value

Evaluate can mean: appraise, assess, calculate, check, check out, classify, gauge, grade, assay, criticize,

estimate

As you can see, the synonyms are quite similar and many English speakers use the words interchangeably.
