What does “hit me” mean?
Good evening! Recently i listened to the podcast, and heard such phrase “Hit me!”. I’ve found out that it is slang, but there are a lot of definitions on the web, and i can’t figure out, which meaning is correct.

Thank you in advance!

Yep, it just means: "Go on", "I'm ready" in a podcast/interview context. It is quite often how someone responds in conversation if the other person explicitly raises that they have a question to ask which involves an area of expertise for the one being asked.

E.g -

Person 1: "I hear that you have spent a lot of time in a brown bear sanctuary. Can I ask you a question about the treatment of the animals there as you saw it?"

Person 2: "Hit me!"

It can be used more broadly than that, but this is a common scenario. "Hit me" implies that the coming question will centre on their professional opinion, rely on their specific area of knowledge or involve an element of their personal life experience about which the interview is curious.

Common phrases that are sometimes used in much the same way would include "Shoot!" (пристреливать?) or even "Fire away!" Notice in these two a shared military metaphor conveying the idea that the question might be challenging but that they are prepared to answer it.

The practice of an interviewer asking a question about whether they can ask a question (it might seem odd!) is usually to signal a transition in the dialogue or give context to both the interviewee and audience as a cue to what the interviewer is trying to explore.

Another use for "hit me" is:

Jack: Hey Bob, hit me up later, after work.
Bob: Ok, i'll do that.

Here, Jack wants Bob to call him on the phone, or meet up in person after work.

I think the context is important to understand the intended meaning, but if I hear "Hit me!" I would think along the lines of "give it to me"

This phrase is used in the card game Black Jack. It describes the dealer dealing another card to the player. If the player wants to increase their card count the player will tell the dealer "Hit me." This means "Give me another card."

An example of this phrase outside of the card game could be:

Friend: "Do you want a beer?"
You: "Hit Me!"

This context implies you do want a beer and you want them to give it to you

Hi Mariana, it could mean something like tell me. For example
"I've got an interesting question for you. But you may not like it. "
"Right... Go on, hit me."
"Well, how do you feel about..."

Do you have any more context which could help clarify how it was meant? Like the sentences around it.

It suddenly hit me; she was going to help me with my mail.
Meaning: I suddenly understood that she was going to help me with my mail.
Meaning of the word in this case - understood.
