Ci ha portati (completely lost why portati)

I am truly lost to understand the grammar of the following sentence as an A1 level student in the seemingly mismatch of ha and portati.

La maestra Grandi oggi ci ha portati al museo.

The Passato prossimo of portare is ha portato so why is written as portati (isn't the ending changed only for verbs that use essere as their auxiliary.) Does the use of ci influence the ending?

hai ragione, normalmente non cambia il participio passato di un "compound tense", quando l'ausiliare è "avere".

Però, se il verbo è preceduto da un direct object pronoun, il participio deve concordare con il pronome. Per questo motivo, "ci ha portati" è corretto. "Portati" concorda con il pronome maschile plurale "ci".

In realtà, questa regola si applica obbligatoriamente con i direct object pronoun di terza persona singolare e plurale. Con i pronomi di prima e seconda persona singolare e plurale non è obbligatorio.

Quindi, in questo caso, entrambe le forme sono corrette: "ci ha portato" e "ci ha portati".
