How do you define native American

Younger generation claimed themself as scholars or educated people, they define native American should be able to read and write English " with proper phrasing, word choice, rhythm, and intonation. ",  for those  who speak and write English with mistakes are classified as US immigrants or foreigners.

The older generation scholars define native Americans are those red indians. The languages they speak are different, English is a foreign language to them. Nowadays, native Americans no longer being used in identity, simply use the new term " American Citizens ", US citizens are either by birth or by Naturalization.  By definition, immigrants and foreigners are not US citizens.

Lots of English Teachers use the old term "native American".  Are they claiming for the race of orignin ? English used to be a foreign language to them and now they can read and write English " with proper phrasing, word choice, rhythm, and intonation. "

In America, regardless of which generation a person belongs to, the term "Native American" refers to the people who were here before the Europeans showed up, the "red indians" that you describe.

Well, yeah, there are very few monolingual speakers of Amerindian languages left. Most speak English at the very least to a conversational level, and with the younger generations, less and less people are bothering to learn their native languages. It's sad to see so much diversity go down the drain before our own eyes, but then again, they're simply looking for a better life.
