Baseball has lost poulairty in the United States though it makes money ....ask someone who played in the NBA finals or super bowls over the last five years and most sports fans can tell you that... ask many americans who is playing in this years world series and I can almost bet that half wouldnt be able to tell you that ovet the last five years...just my thoughts...  

There are actually 4 main sports in the US since ice hockey is considered one of the Big Four sports league here. The most popular sport to watch is American football by far.
