Reasons for War

I enjoy watching documentaries on the American Civil War.  It was an horrific war between the Southern United States and the Northern United States that took place between 1861-1865.  Photography was new then and there are many pictures of the dead from the battles.  So many men's lives were cut short.  It always makes me think of all the wars across the thousands of years.  So many men gone to Sheol leaving behind greiving family.  I always begin to wonder if there are other ways to settle conflicts.  What are your thoughts?  When is war the only answer? Do you think your culture informs your thoughts on war? I do believe sometimes it is unavoidable but when does it become unavoidable?

You are so right. We get what we deserve. 

Your another point was that when does war become unavoidable. In my humble opinion, every single time war is avoidable if both parties are sincere and honest in resolving the real or percieved dispute, and are willing to make some compromises for the good of their own people in the long run. But pride, ego, and arrogance let them act in a way that it appears to be unavoidable.

Pride, arrogance, and greed are the prime reasons of war. And leaders are the reflection of the society in general.

Wars are about many things, certainly not only about natural resourses. Wars are about many things, but it most often they are about control of some kind. Different people want control of something. Usually wars are started by people who want something for themselves, but are influential enough to convince others to fight their battles for them, in the name of religeon, patriotism, or some other nonsense.

Sky, I have seen the truth of your statement concerning the leaders as a reflection of the society.  In the US we are constantly irritated by our leaders.  But in reality, we typically get what we deserve.
