Because I really love Chinese culture and some day I'll travel to visit there.

I recently joined a Mandarin class.  On the first day, the teacher asked us to explain why we wanted to learn Mandarin.  From 20 students, there were only two main answers.

The most common answer was "family".  An Australian person has met a person from China, and the Australian wants to learn Mandarin in order to speak to his or her extended family.

The other common answer was "work". An Australian person has either visited China, or will visit China, for work.

Those were the main reasons why my classmates have chosen to learn Mandarin.

I don't learn Chinese but in Denmark we are encouraged to learn it as the

import/export between our countries are growing fast.

Chinese is a beautiful language with a great history. I love learning hanzi and I love the fact hanzi have been used for more than 3000 years. Also, Chinese will be an important world language soon.

I chose to learn Chinese rather than other European languages at university because I felt in love with the language after the first moments of getting acquainted with it. I wanted to challenge myself and to get to know Chinese culture better. I get a real pleasure out of learning Chinese even though it's a very tough language in terms of learning how to write and memorize the characters.
