what kind of doctors [ie what kind of medical specialists] are considered the most respected and earn more than other doctors in your country?
i am an MD soon to start further medical education in america. i would like to know views from general people about doctors in your country.
Here in Taiwan, a doctor (or anyone) who wins respect is not because what specialty he chooses. But rather, he can do something contributing to the society or the humanity that is more of persuasive.
Yes, the medical profession is not an easy path, and most doctors deserve to be well compensated. However, if that is one's primary motivation, I predict difficulties.

i am sorry @phil, but i will totally disagree with you.
choice of medical specility IS derived by prestige and money. i know this for a fact being in the medical field. and there is nothing wrong with it. doctors have very lengthy and hard trainings, there is nothing wrong in demanding decent pay for that training and subsequent work.
Eye doctors and surgeons — especially ophthalmological surgeons. However, all the successful doctors I know are motivated by a genuine desire to heal those suffering, not a lust for “respect” and monetary reward.
